Although they are still available, annuals from popular franchises aren’t a mark on what they used to be. Typically release in Summer and Winter, these packed annuals got you through Summer and Christmas holidays each year. Growing up I always picked up the Beano and Dandy annuals, often favouring the Beano if I had to. There were dozens though: Blue Peter, Bunty, Weezer, Rupert Bear and so many others including The Buttons Annual.

The Buttons Annual I have here cost me 99p from the Red Cross shop in Watford. First off, I’d never heard of it but all the shows it promised me a nostalgic experience. By the way, did anyone else think Pigeon Street was Channel 4 or is it just me being mistaken? It seems that The Buttons Annual was a BBC special, featuring a huge number of their shows. My favourites are still Bertha, Fingermouse, The Flumps and Henrys Cat.

Do you remember The Buttons Annual? Why don’t you leave us a comment below or send us a message over on Social Media with your memories. We love to hear about things like this and honestly, I could talk all day about it.

To protect the history of chinzy stuff like this, I’ve scanned every page and put them in a gallery below. You can also download the PDF here.

You can find more Annuals over here at a BBC Fandom page.
