So here it is, a mere 2 and a half months after episode 1 aired, the companion piece blog post is finally here! If you haven’t listened to the episode…What are you doing here? Go listen to it, you won’t find much of value here without it.

These posts are just to run alongside the episodes of the show, there will be some screenshots, box art, and a few links, the real meat is over on Super A-Z itself!

Saying that…episode 1 was what you’d call a bit of a beta, it was like version 0.8 just before the final release, and one thing that was missing was box art discussion, so feast your eyes on the absolute beauty that is the 3 Ninjas Kick Back SNES box.

Box Art

God it’s awful…I mean, the logo’s alright, but the 3 flying kicks on the red-blue background is something I would’ve made in IT at school on the day we learned about the gradient tool.

As for the back, I was going to kick off about the spelling mistake, but I did my due diligence and checked against other images, and this one is a repro, but it’s also the only high quality picture of the back so I’m going with it.

The back actually isn’t too bad…Besides the weird obsession with these kids doing a flying kick, it promises scorching hot graphics, intense two-player action, awesome sound effects and a whole lot more! In fact, the promises on the back are (for the most part) fairly well delivered albeit in the most mediocre way possible. I don’t know…I’ve seen worse!

Wrap up

This game is such an odd one, the more I think about it the more I think it might be the most straight down the middle, vanilla, zero risk game I’ve played (so far) it doesn’t do anything particularly well, but it does nothing majorly wrong either. I gave it a 2.5 when I played it, and I pretty much agree with that today, maybe a 2. It’s just not great, or good, or memorable…Maybe I’m regretting my 2.5 now, but what’s done is done, I’m closing the door on this gaming equivalent of ordering a hamburger at McDonalds with no sauce.

Or bun.

Or burger.
